Basic Plumbing Tools


If you are planning on carrying out work to your plumbing system, you should at least have the following tools and equipment.

Radiator valve key

A must to keep radiators running efficiently by allowing air trapped in the system to escape.
Tap washers

Curing a dripping tap is often as simple as replacing a worn washer.
Fibre washers

For a tight seal, ensure washers in joints are up to scratch.
PTFE tape

Wrap this tape around the end of pipework prior to inserting it into joints and valves to ensure a really good seal.
Pipe clips

Keep pipes tidy, supported and reduce water hammer.
Pipe cutter

Cut a copper pipe to the correct length with a good, clean edge.
Pipe bender

To evenly and smoothly bend pipes so that they travel round bends of up to 90 degrees.
Copper pipe

To add new appliances and fixtures to your plumbing system, copper pipe of the correct size is required to carry the water supply to and from it.

Pipe freezing kit

To avoid completely draining your plumbing system, use a freezing kit to solidify water in the incoming pipework and allow yourself upto 30 minutes to do the job.
Lead-free solder wire

For use with soldering connections and a soldering torch.
Flux paste

Easily applied to joint areas prior to soldering. Designed specifically for the soldering of copper plumbing systems, although a range of metals/alloys can be jointed with it.
Soldering torch

For use with soldering connections and solder wire.

730W heat output. Solid brass torch head, anti-flare design and full pressure regulation for consistent performance. 13mm flame. Supplied with Propane Gas.
