Showers

Introduction

Some of the largest developments in bathroom design over the last few years have involved showers, so the variety of shower fixtures, fittings and accessories available on the market today is truly vast.

By first deciding on the location, or siting, of the shower in the bathroom, then which type of shower is most preferred, the final decision should become one of which shower style one prefers most.

Shower site

As discussed at the bathroom planning stage, showers can be located in either a stand alone enclosure (or cubicle) with a shower tray, or they can be sited in, or rather over, a bath.

In an ideal world the bath and shower should be separate, however where space is limited, in a small bathroom for example, combining the two is often the best compromise to make optimal use of space.

Shower types

Put simply, showers can be categorised as either electric or mixer types. Electric showers take a feed from the cold supply only and heat the water themselves, mixers take both hot and cold water supplies and mix the water to the desired temperature.

Shower heads

Once you have decided whether to locate the shower over the bath or in it’s own shower enclosure, and on the type of shower unit required to provide water to the shower head, the next decision is to whether you want a concealed or exposed shower system.
