Gloss paints can be water-based with a high level of added resin, however they are more usually oil-based paints. Many thin layers of gloss paint are far preferable to a few thick layers, as thick gloss takes many hours to dry and can produce sags and drips. Therefore bear this in mind when deciding how many litres of paint you require
Tips for calculating amount of paint required
1 Litre of Gloss covers approximately 13 SqM.
This figure refers to one coat of paint only.
If painting a round object, such as a fence post or bannister rail, calculate the object's width by measuring the length of a piece of string needed to wrap once around the thickest part. Multiply this figure by the length of the object to calculate the surface area.
To achieve a good weather-resistant finish, it is essential to apply an undercoat before painting with gloss.
