A Loon

This chap, Rob Telford, is a friend of ours and he’s taken leave of his senses. He’s set himself the mother of all challenges, booked the boat and covered 200,000 metres in the pool in training so far.

Yes, the madman will be swimming the channel in September in an attempt to raise £10,000 for The Institute of Cancer Research, and simplifyDIY.com will be sponsoring him all the way.

The English Channel is not a friendly place; it’s the world’s busiest seaway, 21 miles wide, a distinctly nippy 18oC…oh, and it’s riddled with jellyfish and a spot of sewage for good measure. It’s no surprise then, that more people have made it to the top of Everest than have swum the channel.

You can see the full details of Rob’s challenge, his training and also contribute to his sponsorship at www.channelswim07.co.uk. Rob would be very grateful for your support.

Phew! Makes you feel a bit feeble, doesn’t it? Pass the Vaseline…

MirrorMedia

You’ve just bought a spanking new slimline plasma or LCD TV, but where to hang it? Above the mantelpiece would be great, but wouldn’t a large mirror look better there?

A company named MirrorMedia have teamed up with Hitachi to create a rather cunning product which solves both of these problems. When it’s off, the framed TV is a perfectly reflective mirror; turn it on, and it’s your normal telly connected to all the usual channels, or your PC.

Even better, they do specially heated ones for that crucial viewing in the bathroom! And there’s a wide range of frames to choose from so your new gismo matches your design scheme perfectly. We love it!

Guide to ladders

Erm…..right.
Lacking a ladder is a tricky situation which can lead to feats of inventiveness, cirque-du-soleil-esque balancing acts and trips to Accident & Emergency - 50 deaths a year are caused by ladders!.

Anyway, a decent ladder ain’t cheap, so make sure you invest in the right one with our guide.

According to a recent Ideal Home survey, the plethora of home improvement shows has taught us nothing. More than half of us don’t know how to wire a plug or bleed a radiator, 6 out of 10 wouldn’t consider putting up a shelf, while nearly 70% couldn’t change a mains fuse.

Bit of luck then, that simplifyDIY.com has a massive directory of more than 50,000 local tradesmen and suppliers from across the UK as well as sound advice on how to do these things!
